7 Nights / 8 Days
Portugal is a lot of things.
It is, of course, the land of discovery, where cultural influences from across the world converge in colourful cities like Lisbon.
It is a coastal haven, where Atlantic waters wash up along endless beaches, bringing with them fresh seafood and a heaping serving of breathtaking views.
And it is a connoisseur. Of wines, olive oils, and most certainly pastries.
But come springtime, it also becomes a layered escape for families, couples, and young adults seeking an accessible European spring break that caters to all their interests.
And this is the kind of escape that Portugal by Travelive’s Assistant Country Manager, Catarina Duarte, has prepared as the first entry in “3 Faces of Portugal”, our new series of advisor-curated itineraries.
So, if you have a break coming up, here’s some to have Portugal with it.
- 2 nights in Lisbon
- 2 nights in Alentejo
- 3 nights in the Algarve

“Portugal is the kind of destination where every day can bring something completely different. One moment you’re exploring Lisbon, the next you’re tasting wine in Alentejo, and before you know it, you’re hiking along the Algarve coast. And that’s the beauty of this spring break: three very distinct settings, one very easy getaway, and a whole lot of Portugal.” Catarina Duarte, Assistant Country Manager, Portugal by Travelive
2 Nights in Lisbon | Breaking into Portugal
Some spring breaks are all about switching off. Others are about making the most of every waking hour. Lisbon, conveniently, lets you do a bit of both.
Settle into Portugal’s colorful capital and spend your first afternoon getting acquainted with its many personalities on a short private tour.
If you feel like stretching your legs after the flight, wander from the elegant squares and cafés of Chiado to the lively lanes of Bairro Alto before descending into the narrow streets of Alfama, Lisbon’s oldest neighborhood.
Otherwise, let a tuk-tuk climb the city’s iconic hills for you with a private ride through historic neighborhoods, panoramic viewpoints, the Sé Cathedral, Castelo, and the grand Comercio Square.
Either way, by the end of your first afternoon, you may very well know Lisbon like a local: tiled façades, neighborhood cafés, the Tagus, and all.
Then, make the most of your full day with a journey beyond the capital.
In Sintra, fairytale palaces and lush hillsides create a change of scenery that feels worlds away, while elegant Cascais brings a breezier coastal note. Back in Belém, meanwhile, Portugal’s Age of Discovery comes vividly to life through monumental architecture and landmarks that recall the voyages that once set sail from these shores. And now, also yours.
It’s a fitting introduction to a country that knows how to make a lasting impression without breaking the speed limit.
2 Nights in Alentejo | The Portuguese Good Life
If Lisbon is about keeping up with the city, Alentejo is about slowing down and enjoying the ride. With rolling vineyards, ancient olive groves, and sleepy villages scattered across its golden landscapes, Portugal’s hidden gem of tranquility is the country at its most relaxed.
So, take some cues from it and spend your first day savoring the region with a full-day gourmet experience that brings together two of Alentejo’s greatest passions: wine and olive oil. Begin at a local winery, where you’ll taste three Portuguese wines and discover why they’re known around the world. Then, head to an olive-oil estate, where 70-year-old trees produce oils that still pack plenty of peppery kick.
And because all that tasting is bound to work up an appetite, settle in for a leisurely three-course regional lunch, with the seasonal menu selected around the finest ingredients available that day. Wine included, naturally.
For a change of pace, spend your second day exploring Évora and Arraiolos. Wander the cobbled streets of UNESCO-listed Évora, taking in its Roman Temple and atmospheric Chapel of Bones, before continuing to Arraiolos, where centuries-old carpet-making traditions are woven (yes, we did) into every part of local life.
With plenty to eat, drink, and embrace, Alentejo proves that sometimes the best way to experience Portugal is to take your time.
3 Nights in the Algarve | On the Same Wave as Portugal
What’s a spring break without a trip to the coast?
But the Algarve is not just any coast. It’s where Portugal lets loose a little, getting into a few adventures, soaking up the sun, breathing in the fresh air, and taking in a healthy dose of Atlantic scenery. And you are more than welcome to join it.
Start by hitting the trail on a private guided hike along the Seven Hanging Valleys. Follow the Algarve’s dramatic coastline past towering limestone cliffs, hidden grottoes, and secluded beaches, as you discover one of Portugal’s most scenic escapes one step at a time.
Then, finally, take to the surrounding waters on a private boat excursion along the coast. Cruise past some of the Algarve’s most beautiful beaches and rock formations, from Marinha Beach and Cova Redonda to Captain’s Cave and Albandeira Beach. All before arriving at the celebrated Benagil Cave, where sunlight filters through its famous open dome, opening a window onto the natural wonder that has become one of Portugal’s most recognizable sights.
And that is Algarve. Plenty of sun, plenty of fun, and a lot to stun.
Departure
And just like that, break time’s over. Yet even in just seven nights, Catarina’s Portugal managed to take you from Lisbon’s colorful streets to Alentejo’s peaceful plains and the Algarve’s sun-soaked shores. All without breaking a sweat.
Which is what makes it perfect for that springtime getaway where you want every day to bring something new without ever feeling like too much.
