Greece in 60 Seconds: Greek Mezedes, One Bite at a Time

by Travelive Team

Nothing beats a great spread; unless, of course, there is a Greek one on the next table. In which case, we suggest you pack your napkins and migrate somewhere between the fried calamari and the tzatziki, before either of them is gone.

Anyone who’s familiar with its cuisine knows that every meal in Greece is a journey through a paradise of flavors; one that typically begins with a bite (more like a few) of meze.

And this is exactly what Greece by Travelive’s Director of Sales, Kostas Sourvanos has ordered up for us today as part of our ongoing series Greece in 60 Seconds, which sees him reveal Greece’s culinary landscape one bite-sized video at a time.

So, let’s go ahead and dig in!

The cornerstone of any Greek feast, meze (or mezedes in plural) is less about the food itself and more about how it is enjoyed. Well, frankly, it’s also very much about the food.

Rooted in centuries of Mediterranean tradition, these small plates were designed to bring people together around the table through the spirit of conversation, laughter, and sharing. There’s no set order, no strict etiquette, just a continuous flow of flavors meant to be savored slowly, one bite at a time.

And with that, it’s time to join Kostas at the table before there’s nothing left!

What's on the Menu?

  • Greek Salad — Sun-ripened tomatoes, crisp cucumber, olives, and feta, finished with golden olive oil.
  • Horta (Wild Greens) — Seasonal greens, simply dressed with olive oil and lemon, fresh and earthy.
  • Fried Calamari — Lightly crisped, tender rings of squid, served with a squeeze of lemon.
  • Fava Dip — A silky yellow split pea purée, rich, smooth, and delicately savory.
  • Tzatziki — Cool yogurt with cucumber, garlic, and herbs, refreshing with every bite.
  • Grilled Octopus — Perfectly tender and full of seaside flavor.
  • Gavros — Golden, crispy anchovies; small, bold, and wonderfully addictive.
