“Portugal is a wonderful destination for families because it offers something for everyone. And this itinerary is the perfect way to capture that in full.” — Andres Reyes Ottonello, Travel Planner, Portugal by Travelive

3 Nights in Lisbon | Never a Dull Moment

With its orange rooftops, iconic yellow trams, and colorful neighborhoods, Lisbon certainly knows how to brighten up a day. Even if it does get a little blue with its azulejo-covered façades.

However, that doesn’t stop Lisbon from being a quintessential starting point on any Portuguese escape; this one included.

Upon arrival, settle in before setting out on a private walking tour of the capital’s historic neighborhoods. Uncover local Lisbon as you wander through the winding lanes of Alfama, the grand avenues of Baixa, and the lively streets of Bairro Alto. And don’t skimp on the pastéis de nata for the kids. Or yourself, for that matter.

Then, embrace Portugal’s Age of Discovery in Belém, where the magnificent Jerónimos Monastery and iconic Belém Tower stand as two of the finest examples of the country’s distinctive Manueline style.

And since Portugal was once one of the world’s great maritime powers, it’s only fitting that you embark on a sailing adventure of your own. Take to the Tagus aboard a private sailboat, watching Lisbon’s colorful waterfront unfold as you glide along the river. After all, what better way to follow in the footsteps of the great explorers than by setting sail yourself?

For your final outing, add even more color to your stay with a journey beyond the capital to Sintra and Cascais. Explore the vibrant, whimsical Pena Palace and Sintra’s historic center before continuing to the turquoise waters of Cascais. From fairy-tale castles to seaside scenery, it’s a day designed to keep explorers of all ages entertained.

And if this is how Lisbon sets the tone, one can only imagine what other discoveries lie ahead!

Vincci Liberdade

Ideally positioned just off Lisbon's prestigious Avenida da Liberdade, this stylish four-star boutique hotel offers an inviting base for discovering the city's cultural landmarks, charming neighbourhoods and vibrant dining scene. Dedicated family rooms, interconnecting rooms and a welcoming contemporary atmosphere make it a convenient choice for parents exploring the capital with children.

The One Palácio da Anunciada

Set within a beautifully restored 16th-century palace, this elegant five-star retreat combines historic grandeur with contemporary comforts in the heart of Lisbon. Its magnificent private gardens, outdoor swimming pool and spacious family accommodation provide a welcome oasis for families looking to explore the Portuguese capital in style.

2 Nights in Alentejo | Plenty of Quality Family Time

After Lisbon’s lively streets, it’s time to change the pace. And few places in Portugal do it quite like the Alentejo, Portugal’s hidden gem of tranquility. Think rolling countryside, picturesque villages, and a wine region that’ll make any parent’s day a little easier.

Following a private transfer from Lisbon to Évora, the afternoon is yours to settle in and take in the surroundings. With its open landscapes and relaxed rhythm, the Alentejo offers a welcome breather between adventures. No need to rush. This is a place where every clock takes a little pause between the tick…and the tock.

The following day, turn your attention to Évora itself on a guided tour through its remarkable history. Admire the Roman Temple, explore the impressive Cathedral, and add a little macabre charm to your visit at the rather intriguing Chapel of Bones. The latter is especially fitting if you’re traveling in October, with Halloween just around the corner. Just be prepared for a few curious questions from the younger members of the group.

With ancient landmarks, countryside charm, and plenty of room to slow down, Alentejo proves that the best things often take time, and great journeys are one of them.

Octant Évora

Stretching across an expansive 11-hectare countryside estate, this contemporary four-star retreat offers a refreshing escape amid the peaceful landscapes of the Alentejo. Meanwhile, family-oriented accommodation, including rooms with bunk beds, five outdoor swimming pools and private villas with their own pools create an inviting setting for relaxed getaways and outdoor adventures.

São Lourenço do Barrocal

Surrounded by rolling plains, vineyards and centuries-old olive groves, this five-star country estate invites families to experience the authentic beauty of the Alentejo. Add to it spacious cottages, inviting swimming pools, a children's playroom and a working farm, and you have all the ingredients for an immersive introduction to Alentejo's nature-inspired adventures.

4 Nights in the Algarve | Coasting Along With Portugal

Who doesn’t love a beach day? Or a few? And the Algarve certainly knows how to make a splash. With its golden beaches, dramatic limestone cliffs, and turquoise waters, Portugal’s southern coast is practically an invitation to get out and explore. Which you are more than welcome to do following your private transfer from Évora to the Algarve.

Once admiring the waters is no longer enough, set out on a boat tour to Ponta da Piedade, where sculpted rock formations, hidden grottoes, and striking coastal scenery show exactly why this is one of Portugal’s most scenic escapes.

For an even closer look, grab a paddle and venture into the famous Benagil sea caves on a kayaking experience. Just remember to look up. (You’ll see what we mean once you get there!)

Back on dry land, lace up your hiking boots for the Seven Hanging Valleys Trail, one of the Algarve’s most scenic coastal routes. Those who prefer a pair of golfing shoes can opt for a round of golf, while a regional wine tasting offers the grown-ups a chance to sample another side of Portugal.

Then, after all that exploring, enjoy a free day to make the region your own, whether that means beach time, family activities, sailing, or simply seeing where the Algarve takes you.

Octant Praia Verde

Tucked away among fragrant pine forests overlooking the Eastern Algarve coastline, this four-star retreat embodies the essence of an idyllic family beach escape. A scenic wooden boardwalk leads through the trees to the golden sands of Praia Verde, while a welcoming Kids Club, inviting swimming pool and Mediterranean-inspired dining make it easy to embrace the slower rhythm of seaside living.

Vila Vita Parc

Resting amid lush subtropical gardens overlooking the Atlantic, this five-star luxury resort promises an exceptional Algarve escape for the whole family. With a secluded sandy beach, six swimming pools, a dedicated crèche, children's club and teen facilities, it provides an outstanding combination of relaxation, recreation and world-class hospitality for guests of all ages.

Optional Add-On

Portuguese Gems En Route to the Algarve

Why make a beeline for the coast when there’s more Portugal to discover along the way? Depending on the route, consider adding one of these charming stops to your journey:

  • Alcácer do Sal: A charming riverside town steeped in history, with traditional architecture and plenty of character.
  • Mértola: A historic village overlooking the Guadiana River, where layers of cultural heritage make for an intriguing detour.
  • Silves: Once the Moorish capital of the Algarve, this charming town invites visitors to explore its historic streets and impressive castle.

1 Night in Comporta | A Breath of Fresh Air

Just when you think you’ve seen everything Portugal’s coastline has to offer, you end up finding yourself in Comporta. If only for one night!

And once you get there, you’ll understand why it makes such a refreshing addition to this getaway.

Once you watch the little ones run across its seemingly endless beaches. Once you take a deep breath of Atlantic air. Once you discover that its sandy shores, unspoiled nature, and wonderfully laid-back atmosphere, are part of the reason why Portugal is so perfect for meaningful, authentic journeys.

Spend the day enjoying the coast, exploring the surrounding landscapes, or simply making the most of some uninterrupted family time. No elaborate plans required. Just a little sunshine, a couple of waves, and the freedom to enjoy the moment.

Independente Comporta

Spanning 12 hectares of tranquil countryside, this four-star retreat seamlessly combines contemporary design with the laid-back spirit of Comporta. And with connecting family rooms, spacious private villas and a dedicated Kids Club, it offers an inviting home away from home amid the region's natural surroundings.

Sublime Comporta

Framed by umbrella pines, cork trees and rolling sand dunes, this five-star hideaway effortlessly captures the understated luxury and natural beauty that make Comporta so special. Meanwhile, spacious family villas with private pools and a dedicated Kids Club make it an ideal setting for families seeking privacy, adventure and quality time together.

Optional Add-On

A Pause in Vila Nova de Milfontes

Why rush straight to Comporta when there’s more Atlantic charm to discover along the way? Stop in Vila Nova de Milfontes, where the Mira River meets the ocean, and enjoy a little seaside wandering before continuing north. A lovely coastal detour to squeeze one more discovery into the journey!
