Dimitra Koinis — Travel Planner for Greece

Gladly. After spending many years in Canada, trading snowy winters for Greece’s sunshine has always felt like a gift to me. The kind of gift that’s also perfect for honeymoons and anniversaries. From whitewashed Cycladic villages and vivid turquoise waters to iconic Santorini sunsets, Greece’s charm, hospitality, rich culture, and unforgettable experiences are what lifelong romances are made of. And this itinerary is a perfect start for one.

  • 2 Nights in Athens
  • 3 Nights in Mykonos
  • 3 Nights in Paros
  • 3 Nights in Naxos
  • 3 Nights in Santorini

2 Nights in Athens — A Love Story Begins in Marble & Candlelight

When planning a honeymoon, I prefer to begin somewhere storied and meaningful, and there’s no better place to do that than in the mythical heart of Athens.

Walking beneath the Acropolis, hand in hand, you feel the weight and wonder of centuries. Passing through the Propylaea, standing before the Parthenon, and watching ancient history unfold through the galleries of the Acropolis Museum infuses every second with millennia of intrigue.

I also find that couples especially appreciate how Athens blends grandeur with intimacy. A quiet stroll through Plaka’s lantern-lit streets, a pause in Syntagma Square, a terrace view that makes you linger just a little longer: these are the moments that turn sightseeing into shared memories.

And then comes dinner. An exclusive evening in a restored 19th-century townhouse, where candlelight flickers above ancient ruins beneath a glass floor and the illuminated Acropolis glows nearby. For me, it’s the perfect beginning: history, atmosphere, and a table set for two.

3 Nights in Mykonos — Effortless Glamour & Seaside Whispers

Following the epic allure of Athens, I like to introduce couples to a different rhythm; one that feels lighter and a little bit more indulgent.

Though commonly associated with a jet-set vibe, Mykonos is not all parties and beach clubs. There is a depth to this island that actually gives it a rare ability to feel both vibrant and intimate at the same time.

Here, mornings unfold slowly. A long breakfast, a quiet swim, perhaps a wander through whitewashed lanes where bougainvillea spills over balconies and the Aegean flashes between narrow passages. I always encourage couples to leave some space in Mykonos; a bit of time to relax and simply be together.

One of my favorite experiences to add is a private Greek picnic on a secluded beach. Crystal-clear waters, a gentle breeze, fresh meze, and glasses of specially crafted and decanted wine. It’s beautifully simple, yet deeply romantic. No reservations, no schedule, just the two of you, the sea, and the unmistakable feeling that you are exactly where you’re meant to be.

3 Nights in Paros — Sailing into Serenity

If Mykonos allows the couple some carefree fun, Paros is where the romance deepens and becomes something more authentic and serene.

While rapidly growing in popularity, Paros is an island that stays true to itself and its visitors; a place where you can truly exhale and let that iconic Cycladic allure make every sun-soaked pause last a lifetime.

And nothing beats doing so on a private cruise along its vibrant coastline. Drifting across clear shimmering waters and swimming in the surreal hues of the Blue Lagoon of Panteronisi. Discovering the neighboring Antiparos and exploring its mysterious sea caves carved by time. And all of this with freshly prepared dishes served on deck, salt still lingering on your skin, the quiet luxury of moving at your own pace. This is the kind of magic that belongs in any romantic story and elevates even the happiest of occasions.

But of course, every couple needs some time for themselves. That is why I always suggest taking a day to wander through Naoussa’s harbor at dusk, to linger over dinner, to watch fishing boats sway gently against pastel skies. Because in Paros, romance isn’t orchestrated, it unfolds naturally, and that’s precisely its charm.

3 Nights in Naxos — Slow Living & Soulful Connection

After the elegance of Paros, I like to bring couples somewhere that feels more sensory and timeless. And Naxos is nothing if not that.

Not only a gastronomic haven, Naxos has a grounding quality to it, one that allows for true connection to the land, culture, and to each other.

Granted, no visit to a paradise of flavors would be complete without one of Greece’s must-try food experiences. And by that, I mean a traditional wood-fire cooking evening at a 15th-century family farm that was once home to a Venetian ruler.

There is something undeniably romantic about preparing a meal together surrounded by ancient olive trees and the quiet hum of nature. With no modern distractions and just the warmth of the flames and surrounding company, this kind of culinary adventure doesn’t just leave you with new flavors, but with a story that feels entirely your own.

Beyond savoring its culinary essence, a day of leisure in Naxos offers the perfect opportunity to savor its laid-back charm with a late morning coffee, a swim in crystalline waters, or a sunset viewed from the Portara. That way, you let Naxos do what it does best: slow things down and let you enjoy what matters.

Long before it became a part of this honeymoon, the aforementioned 15th-century family farm was featured on Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown, where the famous chef explored the island’s rich culinary landscape and rustic traditions. It is the very same place where the class instructor, Mrs. Juliana, charmed Bourdain’s palate with iconic Naxian flavors that have been passed down through generations.

3 Nights in Santorini — A Grand Finale in Gold & Volcanic Light

You can’t talk about a honeymoon in Greece without mentioning Santorini.

I always reserve this iconic island for the end. Not because of its status as a quintessential romantic destination, but because it feels like the final chapter of a beautiful story; one written in whitewashed curves and molten sunsets.

Here, romance is woven into every moment. A guided food and wine experience introduces couples to the island beyond the caldera; to volcanic vineyards shaped by wind and time, to family-run wineries where mineral-rich wines tell the story of the soil. Paired with traditional dishes in an intimate setting, it becomes a celebration not only of flavor, but of togetherness.

And then comes the sea. A sunset catamaran cruise glides past red and white cliffs, ancient rock formations, and shimmering waters. Swimming, dining onboard, champagne in hand, all become preludes to a grand finale that everyone talks about and will keep talking about: the legendary Santorini sunset.

For me, it is the perfect closing scene: dramatic, luminous, and unforgettable; just like the beginning of a lifelong romance.

Departure — Onto the Next Chapter

Every honeymoon must eventually trade island views for departure gates, but I always remind couples of one thing: the journey doesn’t end here.

For this itinerary is more than a celebration; it is a beginning. And that is what makes Greece so powerful for newlyweds and anniversary travelers alike. It does not simply offer beautiful scenery; it creates shared moments that quietly become part of a couple’s story.

As you leave, carrying sun-kissed memories and perhaps a bottle of volcanic wine tucked into your luggage, know this: Greece will always be here, ready for your next anniversary, your next escape, your next chapter.

After all, every great love story deserves a sequel.
