<p><em>9 Nights / 10 Days</em></p>

<p><em>Sip your way through the Mediterranean.</em></p>

<p>Some people follow maps. Others follow wine.</p>

<p>If you fall into the second category, and you believe the best stories begin with a cork popping, <strong>this journey offers something truly unforgettable. </strong>It blends bold reds, rolling vineyards, ancient legends, and meals you&#8217;ll talk about long after the last bite. Welcome to&nbsp;<strong>Wine Lovers Unite: Greece &amp; Croatia</strong>. Dionysus would raise a glass. Bacchus would ask for seconds. And the wine lists shall come filled with stories.</p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li>3 Nights in Thessaloniki</li>

<li>3 Nights in Athens</li>

<li>3 Nights in Istria</li>

<li>1 Night in Venice (<em>Optional</em>)</li>
</ul>

<span id="more-11580"></span>

<div style="height:45px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<p><strong>Start in Northern Greece &#8211; Where Xinomavro Meets the Macedonian Kings</strong></p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img fetchpriority="high" decoding="async" width="860" height="430" src="https://blog.travelive.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/rsz_shutterstock_2103402488.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-11587" srcset="https://blog.travelive.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/rsz_shutterstock_2103402488.jpg 860w, https://blog.travelive.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/rsz_shutterstock_2103402488-300x150.jpg 300w, https://blog.travelive.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/rsz_shutterstock_2103402488-768x384.jpg 768w, https://blog.travelive.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/rsz_shutterstock_2103402488-585x293.jpg 585w" sizes="(max-width: 860px) 100vw, 860px" /></figure>

<p>Begin in&nbsp;<strong>Thessaloniki</strong>, <strong>a city that knows how to mix Byzantine ruins with café culture and northern Greek flavor.</strong> Walk the sea walls, sip strong coffee, and follow the trail to&nbsp;<strong>Naoussa</strong>, where&nbsp;<strong>Xinomavro</strong>&nbsp;thrives in vineyards older than some countries. Stop in&nbsp;<strong>Vergina</strong>, the resting place of Philip II of Macedon &nbsp;(yes, Alexander the Great&#8217;s dad), and visit&nbsp;<strong>Edessa</strong>, where waterfalls crash through the landscape with the kind of flair Zeus would approve of. Every view tells a story, and <strong>every sip feels like a toast to the past.</strong></p>

<p><strong>Athens and Nemea &#8211; The Gods Would Approve</strong></p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img decoding="async" width="860" height="430" src="https://blog.travelive.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/rsz_shutterstock_1249177945.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-11588" srcset="https://blog.travelive.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/rsz_shutterstock_1249177945.jpg 860w, https://blog.travelive.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/rsz_shutterstock_1249177945-300x150.jpg 300w, https://blog.travelive.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/rsz_shutterstock_1249177945-768x384.jpg 768w, https://blog.travelive.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/rsz_shutterstock_1249177945-585x293.jpg 585w" sizes="(max-width: 860px) 100vw, 860px" /></figure>

<p>Then it&#8217;s off to&nbsp;<strong>Athens</strong>, where you&#8217;ll wander the&nbsp;<strong>Acropolis</strong>, gaze out over the city from&nbsp;<strong>Cape Sounio</strong>, and then head west to&nbsp;<strong>Nemea</strong>, <strong>one of Greece&#8217;s most legendary wine regions. </strong>This is&nbsp;<strong>Agiorgitiko</strong>&nbsp;country, full-bodied and velvety, with roots that go back to&nbsp;<strong>Hercules</strong>, who supposedly stopped here to rehydrate after slaying the local lion. (Hydration is essential.)</p>

<p>You&#8217;ll visit two excellent wineries, <strong>taste your way through vintages worth packing</strong>, and we might even talk you into staying at one of them for lunch. It would be a shame not to sit down, relax, and let the view do its work.</p>

<p><strong>Then On to Istria &#8211; Where Romans Planted the First Vines</strong></p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img decoding="async" width="860" height="430" src="https://blog.travelive.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/rsz_shutterstock_2157346433-1.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-11597" srcset="https://blog.travelive.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/rsz_shutterstock_2157346433-1.jpg 860w, https://blog.travelive.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/rsz_shutterstock_2157346433-1-300x150.jpg 300w, https://blog.travelive.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/rsz_shutterstock_2157346433-1-768x384.jpg 768w, https://blog.travelive.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/rsz_shutterstock_2157346433-1-585x293.jpg 585w" sizes="(max-width: 860px) 100vw, 860px" /></figure>

<p>A quick flight to Zagreb and a scenic transfer brings you to <strong>Istria, Croatia&#8217;s answer to Tuscany;</strong> only with fewer crowds and more truffles.<strong> </strong>Base yourself in <strong>Rovinj</strong>, where pastel buildings lean into the sea, or choose <strong>Meneghetti Wine Hotel,</strong> where the vines stretch out in every direction and the breakfast is dangerously good.</p>

<p>In Istria, <strong>Malvazija and Teran take center stage.</strong> You&#8217;ll taste both during <strong>a visit to Rossi Winery</strong>, and then set out for one of the region&#8217;s most iconic experiences: <strong>truffle hunting under the oak forests of Motovun.</strong> The grand finale? A hands-on truffle cooking session that turns everything you find into the kind of meal that would silence a table.</p>

<p><strong>Want to End on a High Note?</strong></p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="860" height="430" src="https://blog.travelive.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/rsz_1shutterstock_755481256-1.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-11590" srcset="https://blog.travelive.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/rsz_1shutterstock_755481256-1.jpg 860w, https://blog.travelive.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/rsz_1shutterstock_755481256-1-300x150.jpg 300w, https://blog.travelive.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/rsz_1shutterstock_755481256-1-768x384.jpg 768w, https://blog.travelive.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/rsz_1shutterstock_755481256-1-585x293.jpg 585w" sizes="(max-width: 860px) 100vw, 860px" /></figure>

<p>Add a night in&nbsp;<strong>Venice</strong>&nbsp;before heading home. Find a quiet canal, raise a final glass of prosecco, and s<strong>oak in the feeling of a journey that carried you through myths, mountains, vines, and villages.</strong></p>

<p><strong>Departure</strong></p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="860" height="430" src="https://blog.travelive.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/departure.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-9356" srcset="https://blog.travelive.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/departure.jpg 860w, https://blog.travelive.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/departure-300x150.jpg 300w, https://blog.travelive.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/departure-768x384.jpg 768w, https://blog.travelive.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/departure-585x293.jpg 585w" sizes="(max-width: 860px) 100vw, 860px" /></figure>

<p>Departing home you will realise that this was not simply a wine trail. It was a celebration of flavor, culture, and everything worth uncorking.</p>

<p><em>10 Nights / 11 Days</em></p>

<p>A Weeklong Journey Through Athens and the Peloponnese</p>

<p>Most people who dream of Greece picture sunsets in Santorini, beach bars in Mykonos, and feta on just about everything. Maybe they even imagine a donkey or two, though let’s be real, they’re probably not thinking of Hydra. But <strong>if you’re ready for a deeper, more soulful kind of trip, the real magic is waiting on the mainland.</strong></p>

<p>This <strong>10-night journey through Athens and the Peloponnese</strong> is for anyone who loves good food, incredible history, and a bit of pampering. It’s <strong>perfect for second-time visitors or just curious first-timers </strong>who want something more than just island hopping.</p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li>3 Nights in Athens</li>

<li>2 Nights in Nafplio</li>

<li>2 Nights in Mystras/Euphoria</li>

<li>3 Nights in Monemvasia</li>
</ul>

<span id="more-11498"></span>

<div style="height:45px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<p><strong>Days 1-2 — Athens | Ancient Stones and Sweet Treats</strong></p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="860" height="430" src="https://blog.travelive.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/rsz_shutterstock_2055397688_1.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-10082" srcset="https://blog.travelive.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/rsz_shutterstock_2055397688_1.jpg 860w, https://blog.travelive.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/rsz_shutterstock_2055397688_1-300x150.jpg 300w, https://blog.travelive.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/rsz_shutterstock_2055397688_1-768x384.jpg 768w, https://blog.travelive.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/rsz_shutterstock_2055397688_1-585x293.jpg 585w" sizes="(max-width: 860px) 100vw, 860px" /></figure>

<p>Start in Athens. Of course, you’ll <strong>visit the Acropolis</strong>, but not the crowded, let’s-get-it-over-with version. Think private tour <strong>with a great local guide who actually makes mythology feel alive</strong>. You’ll hear stories of gods, wars, and why this city still matters.</p>

<p>After walking among ancient columns, it’s <strong>time for something delicious</strong>. A food tour is the way to go. Imagine warm<strong> loukoumades drizzled in honey, street-side gyro stops, and the kind of flaky pastries that make you stop mid-bite</strong> to say: “Oh wow.”</p>

<p>Evenings are best spent on a rooftop with a <strong>cocktail in hand and the Parthenon glowing in the distance</strong>. It’s a bit cliché, but in the best possible way.</p>

<p><strong>Days 3-4 — Nafplio | Ancient Theaters and Local Wine</strong></p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="860" height="430" src="https://blog.travelive.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/rsz_shutterstock_784634563.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-10370" srcset="https://blog.travelive.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/rsz_shutterstock_784634563.jpg 860w, https://blog.travelive.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/rsz_shutterstock_784634563-300x150.jpg 300w, https://blog.travelive.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/rsz_shutterstock_784634563-768x384.jpg 768w, https://blog.travelive.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/rsz_shutterstock_784634563-585x293.jpg 585w" sizes="(max-width: 860px) 100vw, 860px" /></figure>

<p>On the way to Nafplio, take <strong>a detour to Mycenae and Epidaurus</strong>. These places are so ancient that even the Acropolis will feel like the new kid on the block. Meanwhile the theater at Epidaurus is a genuine acoustic masterpiece, where <strong>you can actually hear someone whisper from the stage</strong>.</p>

<p><strong>Nafplio itself is all pastel houses, little shops, and a dreamy promenade by the sea.</strong> It’s the kind of place you instantly want to slow down in.</p>

<p><strong>If you’re into wine, Nemea is nearby</strong>. There you’ll taste bold reds like Agiorgitiko that might just become your new favorite. Or if you prefer mountains over Merlot, <strong>the villages of Arcadia offer quiet stone houses, lazy lunches, and the best kind of doing-nothing afternoons</strong>.</p>

<p><strong>Days 5-6 — Mystras and Euphoria Retreat | Castles and Calm</strong></p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="860" height="430" src="https://blog.travelive.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/rsz_shutterstock_1515147188.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-11501" srcset="https://blog.travelive.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/rsz_shutterstock_1515147188.jpg 860w, https://blog.travelive.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/rsz_shutterstock_1515147188-300x150.jpg 300w, https://blog.travelive.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/rsz_shutterstock_1515147188-768x384.jpg 768w, https://blog.travelive.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/rsz_shutterstock_1515147188-585x293.jpg 585w" sizes="(max-width: 860px) 100vw, 860px" /></figure>

<p>Next up is Mystras. <strong>This place is straight out of a storybook</strong>, with crumbling Byzantine churches, mountain views, and winding paths that make you feel like you’ve stepped back in time.</p>

<p>Then comes <strong>Euphoria Retreat</strong>, and trust us, it’s a game changer. There’s <strong>yoga in the forest, olive oil massages, and even a Byzantine hammam</strong> if you’re up for something ancient and steamy. The food is healthy but still delicious, and the staff somehow knows exactly what you need before you do.</p>

<p>Set aside a full day here to do absolutely nothing. No sightseeing, no plans. Just deep breaths, herbal tea, and maybe a salt room nap. It’s that kind of place.</p>

<p><strong>Days 7-9 — Monemvasia and the Mani | Old Stones and Olive Groves</strong></p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="860" height="430" src="https://blog.travelive.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/rsz_shutterstock_2152043435.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-11503" srcset="https://blog.travelive.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/rsz_shutterstock_2152043435.jpg 860w, https://blog.travelive.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/rsz_shutterstock_2152043435-300x150.jpg 300w, https://blog.travelive.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/rsz_shutterstock_2152043435-768x384.jpg 768w, https://blog.travelive.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/rsz_shutterstock_2152043435-585x293.jpg 585w" sizes="(max-width: 860px) 100vw, 860px" /></figure>

<p>Now it’s time to head south to <strong>Monemvasia, a medieval town carved into a cliff and only accessible by foot. </strong>The whole place feels like a secret. No cars, just stone paths, flowers on balconies, and views that go on forever.</p>

<p>From there, <strong>explore the Mani Peninsula</strong>. It’s rugged, dramatic, and full of character. Think stone tower houses, tiny seaside villages, and stories that mix <strong>history with just a bit of myth.</strong></p>

<p>One of the highlights is visiting a traditional mansion for a private olive oil and wine tasting. The hosts are passionate and generous, and the olive oil is so good you’ll want to drink it. Don’t worry, no one will judge.</p>

<p><strong>Day 10 — Back to Athens | One More Sunset</strong></p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="860" height="430" src="https://blog.travelive.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/rsz_4shutterstock_1917138548.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-9606" srcset="https://blog.travelive.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/rsz_4shutterstock_1917138548.jpg 860w, https://blog.travelive.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/rsz_4shutterstock_1917138548-300x150.jpg 300w, https://blog.travelive.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/rsz_4shutterstock_1917138548-768x384.jpg 768w, https://blog.travelive.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/rsz_4shutterstock_1917138548-585x293.jpg 585w" sizes="(max-width: 860px) 100vw, 860px" /></figure>

<p>The drive back to Athens is peaceful, <strong>perfect for reflecting on everything you’ve seen and eaten</strong>. One final night in the city lets you enjoy a simple dinner, maybe one last glass of wine, and a sunset stroll through Plaka.</p>

<p><strong>Day 11 &#8211; Departure</strong></p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="860" height="430" src="https://blog.travelive.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/departure.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-9356" srcset="https://blog.travelive.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/departure.jpg 860w, https://blog.travelive.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/departure-300x150.jpg 300w, https://blog.travelive.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/departure-768x384.jpg 768w, https://blog.travelive.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/departure-585x293.jpg 585w" sizes="(max-width: 860px) 100vw, 860px" /></figure>

<p>By this point, Greece won’t just be a trip. It’ll feel like something you carry with you — <strong>a taste, a sound, a moment that makes you smile long after you’re home</strong>.</p>

<p>The Peloponnese, a region with a rich <strong>wine making </strong>history that dates back thousands of years, is one of Greece’s most enchanting wine destinations. Among its many wine-producing areas, the region of <strong>Nemea </strong>stands out, particularly in autumn when the vineyards turn golden and the air is crisp, making it the perfect season for a <strong>wine-tasting journey</strong>.</p>

<span id="more-8552"></span>

<div style="height:30px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">The Unique Grape Varieties of Nemea and Mantineia</h2>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="683" src="https://blog.travelive.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/nemea-vineyard.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-8554" srcset="https://blog.travelive.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/nemea-vineyard.jpg 1024w, https://blog.travelive.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/nemea-vineyard-300x200.jpg 300w, https://blog.travelive.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/nemea-vineyard-768x512.jpg 768w, https://blog.travelive.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/nemea-vineyard-585x390.jpg 585w, https://blog.travelive.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/nemea-vineyard-263x175.jpg 263w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p>Nestled in the <strong>northeastern part of the Peloponnese, Nemea</strong> is often referred to as the <strong>“Bordeaux of Greece”</strong> due to its ideal conditions for <strong>viticulture</strong>. Here, the star grape is the <strong>Agiorgitiko variety</strong>, also known as <strong>&#8220;St. George&#8217;s grape&#8221;</strong>. The Peloponnese offers a wide selection of grape varieties that thrive in its diverse climates and soils. Lower-altitude vineyards produce softer, fruitier wines, while the higher altitudes yield more structured, tannic reds that develop beautifully with age. Agiorgitiko wines are known for their deep red color, soft tannins, and flavors of ripe plum, black cherry, and spice.</p>

<p>Other notable Peloponnesian grape varieties include <strong>Moschofilero</strong>, <strong>a white grape grown mainly in the Mantineia region</strong>, which produces <strong>aromatic</strong>, <strong>floral wines</strong> <strong>with refreshing acidity</strong>. For those who enjoy <strong>crisp whites</strong>, this light and slightly exotic wine pairs well with lighter fare like <strong>seafood </strong>or <strong>Mediterranean mezze</strong>.</p>

<div style="height:30px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">How to Pair Peloponnesian Wines with Food</h2>

<p>One of the highlights of Greek wines is their ability to<strong> pair seamlessly with the flavors of Mediterranean cuisine. Aged Agiorgitiko</strong>, with its versatile profile, can be paired with <strong>grilled meats</strong>, such as <strong>lamb </strong>or <strong>beef</strong>, which match the wine&#8217;s fruity and spicy undertones. The softer, <strong>fresher Agiorgitiko </strong>work well with pasta or mushroom-based dishes, as their mild tannins and acidity balance creamy and earthy flavors.</p>

<p>Meanwhile, if you’re savoring a glass of <strong>Moschofilero</strong>, try pairing it with<strong> fresh fish, green salads, or appetizers with citrusy and herbal notes.</strong> This crisp white wine complements light flavors without overpowering them, making it an excellent choice for a refreshing autumn lunch or appetizer course.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Autumn: The Perfect Season for a Wine Tasting Tour in Nemea</h2>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="683" src="https://blog.travelive.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/wine-tour.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-8555" srcset="https://blog.travelive.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/wine-tour.jpg 1024w, https://blog.travelive.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/wine-tour-300x200.jpg 300w, https://blog.travelive.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/wine-tour-768x512.jpg 768w, https://blog.travelive.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/wine-tour-585x390.jpg 585w, https://blog.travelive.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/wine-tour-263x175.jpg 263w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p><strong>Fall is an idyllic time to explore Nemea</strong>, as the harvest season invites visitors to experience the vineyards at their peak. The cooler weather is ideal for <strong>touring the region’s wineries</strong>, where you can learn about the <strong>winemaking process </strong>from grape to glass. Many wineries offer guided tastings that include a selection of aged and newly released wines, allowing you to explore the spectrum of flavors that Nemea has to offer.</p>
