There was laughter, a bit of trial and error, some exasperation (maybe more than some), but ultimately plenty of appreciation for the artisans who keep this age-old craft alive. It was the kind of experience that slows you down, reconnects you to the tactile, and leaves you with a deeper respect for Greece’s living traditions.

With our creative muscles flexed and appetites awakened, our next stop was all about indulgence. Stepping into a boutique food shop dedicated to small-scale Greek producers, we were invited to experience Nafplio, and the wider Peloponnese, through its flavors.

A generous spread of cured cold cuts and three distinct local cheeses set the stage, each telling a story of tradition, cultivation, and timeless appreciation of food (something we’re very much aware of). Jars of jams, marmalades, and regional delicacies lined the shelves, tempting us at every turn. Resistance, as it turns out, was futile. For once we had gotten a taste of the establishment’s mouthwatering provatina (rich, deeply flavorful lamb) several of us couldn’t help but take some home; almost depleting the owner’s stock in the process.

Flavorsome and insightful, it was a delicious reminder that at the end of the day, the most memorable journeys are often savored one bite at a time.
